CeraVe’s founding insight — that ceramides are the critical missing ingredient in most cleansers and moisturisers, and that restoring them to the skin is as important as any other skincare benefit a product can claim — is expressed most directly in the Foaming Cleanser’s formula. Ceramides are lipid molecules that form the ‘mortar’ of the skin barrier’s brick-and-mortar structure — the intercellular glue that holds the stratum corneum together and determines how well the skin retains moisture and resists environmental irritants. Conventional cleansers, even gentle ones, inevitably displace some of the barrier’s ceramide content alongside the oil and dirt they are designed to remove — which is why the skin can feel tight, dry, or sensitised after washing even with mild formulas. CeraVe’s MVE (Multivesicular Emulsion) technology in the Foaming Cleanser deposits ceramides back into the skin during the cleansing step itself, counteracting the ceramide displacement that cleansing causes and ensuring that the barrier is actively reinforced rather than depleted by the wash.

Suggested Use
Apply to wet skin morning and evening. Lather in hands first, then massage gently onto the face in circular motions. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and pat dry. Follow with CeraVe Moisturizing Cream or Lotion for the full barrier-restoration routine.
